The Nutcracker, performed by the Joffrey Ballet.

A couple of non-holiday shows and a classic Christmas performance take the Chicago stage this week.

Annie Get Your Gun

Light Opera Works tackles the wild west stage classic about a pair of talented sharpshooters who let their pride get in the way of love. The show runs Saturday, Dec. 21 through Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Light Opera Works, Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson St., Evanston, 874-920-5360 or online.

Die Fledermaus

Snappy German tunes and a lively score help brighten up this beloved operetta that’s a good fit for opera novices (myself included). The show runs selected performances through Saturday, Jan. 18.

Lyric Opera, 20 N. Wacker Dr., 312-332-2244 or online.

The Nutcracker

The Joffrey’s annual ballet is a Christmas classic, so grab a seat before the chaos of the holiday week takes hold. (Editors note: check out our review from earlier this month before you go.) The show runs through Saturday, Dec. 28.

Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Pkwy., 800-982-2787 or online.
