If you are looking to spice up your winter holiday drinking, The Violet Hour posted two new options to dabble in last night. One is a simple classic, while the other is, of course, a twist on the original.

First up, you can order mulled apple cider (a personal favorite this time of year) spiked with your pick of liquor. Choose from Laird’s Apple Brandy, Clear Creek Pear Brandy (our top pick to try), Vida Mezcal, Matusalem Rum or Meade Bourbon to compliment your cider.

The second new option is the Quetzalcoatl Hot Xocolatl, a Violet Hour take on Mexican Hot Chocolate. The cocktail combines cocoa, Vida Mezcal, Green Chartreuse, Combier Kimmel and cayenne.

We’ve always enjoyed the traditional spicy kick in Mexican Hot Chocolate, but Violet Hour adds a whole new layer of smokiness and herbal flavor. We’re interested to see how the kimmel, a liquor traditionally made with caraway seed, cumin and fennel, blends with the other flavors. It sounds like a bold cocktail with a lot of depth.

The Violet Hour is located at 1520 N Damen Ave. Just look for the light above the door and head inside to warm up this week with one of these new cocktails.
