Restaurant News: BadHappy Poutine, Swim Café, Icosium Kafe Closed Or Closing

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Jan 2, 2014 7:25PM

Sunday is your last chance (for now) to get BadHappy Poutine's RedNeck Poutine

Lincoln Restaurant and La Bocca Della Verita aren't the only restaurants that are now closed or are closing within a few days.

- Eater Chicago reports BadHappy Poutine Shop is closing after their brunch service Sunday. Owner and chef Tom Kern said a landlord dispute is behind the decision to shutter his popular but poorly located storefront. Kern did say he would be interested in re-opening BadHappy in a new location but only after he takes a break to focus on the spring opening of Geek Bar in Lincoln Park. Kern will bring some BadHappy favorites along with him to Geek Bar.

- Swim Café quietly closed while co-owner Karen Gerod continues her battle with cancer. Gerod and her sister Debra opened the Noble Square coffee house eight years ago and became a popular destination for folks looking for simple food, live lit and art. They will re-open one final time Jan. 12 for the monthly "That's All She Wrote" storytelling series.

- Say goodbye to Andersonville mainstay Icosium Kafe. A handwritten message on the restaurant's front door signed by chef/owner Belkacem El Metennani read simply, "I'm done with crepes" while thanking customers for their patronage. [DNAInfo Chicago]
