Some of us here at Chicagoist have taken to the stage to tell truths, tall tales, and other stories before a live audience. Chicago's storytelling scene is rich with talent. Regular series like 2nd Story, Write Club, Story Club North and South Side, Story Sessions, You're Being Ridiculous, and Story Lab pack bookstores, taverns, theaters and larger venues across town on a regular basis.

While everyone likes a good story, not everyone can be a raconteur. It takes talent, commitment and nerves of steel to lay oneself bare in front of an audience which is why Lifeline Theatre's 17th annual Fillet of Solo festival culls the wheat from the chaff and brings Chicago's best storytellers and storytelling series together for three weeks of performances, solo readings, seminars and workshops.

Lifeline, along with Live Bait Theatre, brings together 13 storytelling collectives and 10 solo performers at both Lifeline (6912 N. Glenwood Ave.) and Heartland Studio Theater (7012 N. Glenwood Ave.). Tickets are only $10 for each performance. Festival passes can be purchased for $30.

Lifeline Theatre's 17th annual Fillet of Solo festival runs through Jan.19.
