Most of the time, if we’re talking bull here in town, it’s D Rose and the gang. Unless in the financial district, when we’re talking bulls and bears. (Still, Lord knows we don’t want to talk about Bears yet after our end-of-season heartbreaker.)
If you're riding the rails to or from Union Station this Thursday, January 9th, you’ll be able to steer yourselves towards something a bit more bovine. The Professional Bull Rider’s Association will be at the train station promoting the elite Built Ford Tough Chicago Invitational this weekend at Allstate Arena. Visitors to the station will be able to interview professional bull rider Billy Robinson, and if you are lacking opportunities to make an ass of yourself in public, you can try your hand at riding the mechanical bull that will be set up. If you don't feel up to a ride yourself, we think it might be fun to grab some Garrett's and pull up a seat to watch others take a spin while you wait for your (inevitably late) train.
While we don’t hear about it much around Chicago, the PBR circuit is a big deal in other parts of the country as well as internationally. The invitational at Allstate will feature the top 35 bull riders in the world competing for a $1 million dollar prize and, as you’d expect, a coveted belt buckle.
It’s a dangerous sport and not without its share of controversy. But if you want to see it done “right”, then pull on some boots, grab some tickets for Jan. 11 or 12 at Allstate and get to hootin’ and hollerin’. Looks like the rodeo is in town.
