Southwest Side Favorite Wonderburger Temporarily Reopens

A culinary cause for celebration on the Southwest side today with the news that the beloved Wonderburger will open once again, at least for a little while longer. The owners of the classic neighborhood spot in Mount Greenwood closed their doors Dec. 31 after first opening in 1954, deciding to sell the restaurant to a new owner. Yesterday that deal fell through and for the time being Wonderburger has decided to stay open while they seek another buyer.

Megan Dobbs, the daughter of owner Karen McCormick, told Beverly-MtGreenwood Patch that the restaurant will reopen tomorrow, Thursday Jan. 9 and stay open while the establishment stays up for sale. Dobbs said originally she and her mother planned to help the new owners transition the business, but when the potential buyers backed out last minute, all they had to do to reopen was make a few orders.

After tasting a similar burger from fellow Wonderburger family member Russ Grant at the new Parts and Labor last month, we might have to head down and try the original before they sell the business and shut up shop again. Wonderburger will be open again starting at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.
