Get out this week and take in a classic musical, a highly anticipated August Wilson play or a benefit for the Beverly Arts Center.

Seven Guitars

Court Theatre’s latest installment of playwright August Wilson’s Pittsburgh Cycle is set in 1948 and chronicles the story of a recently imprisoned blues singer who’s struggling with his unexpected success. If it’s anything like the Court’s previous August Wilson play, Jitney, we’re in for an emotionally volatile night. The show runs through Sunday, Feb. 9.

Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Ave., 773-753-4472 or online.

Cabaret

Marriott Theatre’s production may not have Michelle Williams, who will certainly draw in crowds in the upcoming Broadway revival, but we have high hopes for actress Megan Sikora in the role of the fame-seeking, lovelorn Sally Bowles. The show runs Wednesday, Jan. 15 through Sunday, March 16.

Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Dr., Lincolnshire, 847-634-0200 or online.

BAC to Broadway

We’re suckers for a good musical revue, and this one features guilty pleasure Broadway songs sung by some amazing local talent. Plus, the proceeds for this one-night-only event benefit the Beverly Arts Center. The show takes place Saturday, Jan. 11.

Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 11th St., 773-445-3838 or online.
