2011_8_15MercaditoCocktail.jpeg Lifelong learning has its advantages, especially when you study the cocktail classics. Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 14, the Tippling Bros. will host a Mixology Academy so you can finesse your old-school sidecar into a slick and modern machine. If you get a little tiddly with fellow scholars in the process, just consider it part of the learning curve.

“The idea for Mixology Academy was to extend the educational series that we have been offering at Mercadito Hospitality, from Tippling Tuesdays and the Cooking Demos, to include a class that would teach people about mixology and mixing at home,” said Paul Tanguay, one of the Tippling Bros. “We want the class to be educational in that people will learn something, but in a fun and relaxed atmosphere—this class is not geared to the professional barkeep, but to home consumers.”

School opens with “Old Fashioned and New Fangled," an exploration of the rise and fall (and rise) of one of civilization's most iconic libations. Paul Tanguay and Tad Carducci will share some of their favorite variations while encouraging you to hone your own. All classes begin at 7 pm and take place in Double A, the lounge below Mercadito. Classes cost $35 each, or you can matriculate at the graduate level with all six sessions and a home mixology kit for $180.
