Two women and one man are dead after a shooting at a grocery store in Elkhart, Ind. Wednesday night. A lone gunman entered Martin’s Super Market around 10 p.m. through the deli door and opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun, WNDU-TV reports. Several rounds were exchanged between law enforcement and the shooter before an officer shot and killed the gunman.

Reports state that the gunman had his weapon pointed at a third person when officers arrived, but that individual was not killed. Police found a knife and a large caliber semi-automatic handgun in the store. The shooter was a 22-year-old male from the area. The other two victims were a 44-year-old female shopper and a 20-year-old female Martin’s employee. Any relationships between the shooter and the other deceased are still unknown.

Because an officer was involved in the shooting, Elkhart police have followed standard protocol and given the investigation to the Indiana State Police. Martin’s Super Markets posted the following message on their Facebook page Wednesday night:

“Thank you to our community for your thoughts and prayers tonight. We will comment further when we can do so responsibly and appropriately.”
