The L&L Tavern

We love recognizing local spots that come across our television screen but one favorite neighborhood joint is about to get some unfortunate typecasting. DNAinfo reports that a new NBC drama, Crisis, will be filming this week at L&L Tavern. L&L is a perfect little dive at the corner of Belmont and Clark with a jukebox full of good music, a no-fuss attitude and some seriously strong and cheap drinks. It even made our list of best dive bars in the city. So we’ll be excited to see it gracing our television screens come March but bummed a little given the situation.

A casting call suggests the bar will be transformed into a watering hole for “Aryan Nation types.” Extras who respond to the casting call are asked to enter “PUREBLOOD BAR” in the subject line of their emails. Oof. We’re hoping this doesn’t bring a new clientele to the L&L (we’re betting not) and hopefully this won’t give them the nickname “that white power bar from that NBC show.” We enjoy catching Lottie’s Pub on Chicago Fire (although that's about to change) yet we are annoyed when we see Gibson’s as the watering hole on The League. Seriously, who hangs out at the bar at Gibson’s after work?! Do lawyers really do that? Having the L&L turned into an Aryan Nation hangout ranks somewhere in the middle of these two.

Crisis, which stars Gillian Anderson, is set to debut in March. NBC bills it as “the most emotionally charged action thriller of the season.” Take from that what you will. You can check out more information here, where you can watch a trailer full of piles of cash and really dramatic music.

The filming at L&L will take place on Wednesday. There are parking restrictions in the area Tuesday through Thursday. Head over to DNAinfo for more information on those restrictions. And if you are planning on stopping by L&L, you might want to wait it out this week.
