It’s Grammy time! Whether you watch the Grammys for entertainment or to make a sport of it, the goal of the ceremony is to gather the best of the best together and honor their accomplishments in the music world. But whether or not you’re going to bask in the blue light of the boob tube this weekend to watch bands old and new perform and make awkward speeches, you may be able to get a glimpse of some Grammy gold.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is in possession of 62 of those little Grammy statues, and any trip to Symphony Hall will cement the validity of those kind of accolades. They’ve recently returned from a winter tour that took them to the Canary Islands, Germany and Luxembourg. And while they’re unpacking and putting away their passports, Chicago has rolled into town for a debut performance with the group tonight at Symphony Center.

Founded in 1967 and with an impressive number of number one albums and chart topping singles, Chicago is no slouch either. In fact, they’re headed to the Grammys themselves this weekend, with a nomination to the Grammy Hall of Fame and to play with Robin Thicke.

Shortly thereafter, Chicago will fly back to play a second show with the CSO on Tuesday, Jan. 28th. There are limited tickets available for the Saturday night performance, with a bit more availability for Tuesday night.

We’re fans of musical worlds colliding, and are interested to hear what this collaboration brings about. Symphonic rock tickles our tympanic membranes in just the right way, and the programming includes “Introduction” from the debut album, Chicago Transit Authority, along with some favorites like “25 or 6 to 4” and “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” We think it’s something unique you might enjoy.
