Swizzle Tree at Double Door
Swizzle Tree has been knocking around town for over a decade, enthusiastically plugging away playing catchy pop-punk that's a little more pop than punk. The group is largely dormant—outside their MySpace page and Twitter handle their biggest web presence is this excellent page circa 2005—so when they play it's an event. if you're looking for some good time jams to help kickstart your weekend then we recommend their show tonight on a solid bill including Brighton MA, Workout Music and the Dead On.

Friday, Feb. 7 at Double Door, 1572 N Milwaukee, 8 p.m., $10-$12, 21+

Saint Rich at The Riv
Saint Rich made it onto our best albums of 2014 list so this weekend you have a chance to see them prove our opinion right on stage. Their glammy swagger will draw you in. The only downside of the show is that they're the opening band so get there early.

Saturday, Feb. 8 at The Riv, 4746 N Racine, 8 p.m., $24, 18+

The Pixies at The Riv
Yes, at this point The Pixies shows are more about sentimentality than throat shredding viscerality but they still put on a good show. And we may be in the minority, but we like the handful of new songs the band has released over the last year. We're still bummed Kim Deal left the band, but the addition of touring bassist Paz Lechantin has us intrigued. She's shared the stage with Billy Corgan so we're confident she can hold her own against Black Francis and their set will be all the better for it.

Sunday, Feb. 9 at The Riv, 4746 N Racine, 8 p.m., $50, 18+
