Gideon's Knot at Profiles Theatre.
Two Stephen Sondheim musicals and a disturbing melodrama round out the theater scene this week.
Gypsy
There have been quite a few productions of Gypsy around Chicago in the past couple years, but we’re uber-excited about Tony nominee Louise Pitre’s turn as the infamous, eggroll-loving stage mom. The show runs through Sunday, March 23.
Chicago Shakespeare Theater, 800 E. Grand Ave., 312-595-5600 or online.
Into the Woods
Fairy tale characters learn what happens after their wishes are granted in this Stephen Sondheim classic. Catch the Mercury Theatre’s stage production before it gets the movie star treatment this fall. (Not that we’re complaining, Meryl Streep.) The show runs through Sunday, March 30.
Mercury Theater, 3745 N. Southport Ave., 773-325-1700 or online.
Gidion’s Knot
Playwright Johnna Adams’ emotionally fraught story of an unexpected parent-teacher conference reveals disturbing insights into school bullying, parental guilt and teen suicide. The show runs through Sunday, March 9.
Profiles Theatre, 4147 N. Broadway, 773-549-1815 or online.
