Did you manage to watch Tom Skilling last night? The man almost sounded giddy at the thought of the forecast for Friday and the week ahead. (Or maybe that's simply cabin fever screwing with my head.) Skilling says this is the weather for the next week will be the most sustained stretch of "I'm done with winter" temperatures to hit Chicago in a while. Starting today we'll be riding a wave of highs in the teens and lows in the single digits through Tuesday. There's a wind chill advisory in effect right now through 11 a.m. and the mercury isn't expected to reach past 12 degrees. But we'll have plenty of sunshine to enjoy, if you're into that. A week ago I wasn't but I'll take it now.
The weather will remain in a cycle of highs in the teens and lows in the single and subzero digits except for Saturday when the clouds return and bring us another round of snow and overnight lows around 15 degrees. Now that we know what's coming we simply need to hang in there like hair in a biscuit until midweek when the mercury flirts with 30 degrees again.
