Well we got that winter storm out of the way Monday. Today the thaw arrives with our first chance for 40-degree temperatures around here since mid-January. Spurred along by brisk southwest winds and rain over the next three days the chances of seeing these mounds of snow melting away and leading to flooding are good. (So will the odds of seeing Mayor Emanuel doing a photo op in front of a pile of sandbags along the north branch of the Chicago River to prove the city is taking the flooding seriously.)

The warming trend (such as it is) will stay in effect through Friday before the weather turns colder again for the weekend. So enjoy this mild weather while you can and hope there's no flooding.
