If you are a dibs faithful or just too lazy to move your crap out of the street, you risk losing your precious lawn chairs, trash cans and other assorted items starting today. The Department of Streets and Sanitation announced Friday that crews would start picking up dibs items left in the road to save parking spaces starting this week, DNAinfo Chicago reports. “With the snow melting and weather conditions warming, residents should remove any debris from the public way and off the parkway to ensure it is not collected by our crews,” said Streets and Sanitation spokeswoman Molly Poppe.
Crews usually only move items obstructing traffic and leave the usual array of dibs scattered throughout parking spots in Chicago during winter, but as of this week don’t be surprised if your dibs goes missing. And for many, the city nixing dibs for the season is a subtle nod that spring might be around the corner, no matter if Mother Nature tells us otherwise. So you might be dodging less dibs walking the Chicago streets soon but expect the excess of doggie doo to increase as the snow continues to melt. Now if only owners could pick up after their pets AND humans could stop threatening each other over parking spots, winters in Chicago would be just a little better.
