How do we frame the obvious today? The best way we know is to let you know it will get better but the Chicago area is in store for another brief round of bitter cold before we're in the clear so let's just power through and keep the dibs at bay. Currently the mercury is above zero as it makes a beeline to a 12-13 degree day. A wind chill advisory remains in effect until noon with gusty conditions making it feel anywhere from minus-5 to 20 below outside. That's why I'm fully dressed and wearing a bathrobe like Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock right now.

As we head into the evening the temps will dip back to the zero degree mark and possibly lower, flirting with the weather record books once again in what has been an astounding run of sub-zero temperatures this winter. Things will start getting better in time for the weekend, when we should be on the lookout for up to six more inches of snow Friday and pushing this winter's totals closer to the 70 inch mark, making 2013-14 one of the snowiest winters on record in Chicago. And everyone loves setting a personal best, even one as dubious as this.
