The snow keeps piling up. Another 5.1 inches was recorded at O'Hare Saturday and Sunday, bringing this winter's official total to an impressive 73.4 inches and counting. (Midway Airport's snowfall total is near 77 inches.) And the snow is tapering off in time for Mayor Emanuel, Jimmy Fallon and over 3,000 of their closest friends to dip their toes and more into Lake Michigan in the Polar Bear Plunge.
But it's going to be a gray, bitter cold day for them to wade into the lake. Skilling Central's forecast calls for a high in the mid-teens and lake effect snow along Lake Michigan; northwest Indiana isn't out of the woods yet. The deep freeze that has followed nearly every snowfall this season will be in effect tonight with some parts of the area set to see sub-zero temps again.
In March. yup. For those of you interested in watching the Polar Bear Plunge, NBC 5 has set up a live stream that will start at 9:45 a.m. Chicagoist has embedded it below.
