For the second time in as many years registration for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon has been postponed due to a technical issue discovered in the registration process. Race officials announced a new registration process in January that would feature a lottery system to distribute many of the 45,000 race bibs up for grabs. Runners will be required to register in one of the following groups: Time Qualifier; Chicago Marathon Legacy Finisher; Charity Program participants; International Tour Program participants; and Wheelchair Athletes.
Registration was supposed to begin this morning but an announcement posted on the marathon’s website read that it would be postponed to noon local time March 19 “to finalize a routine yet comprehensive assessment of our new registration process.”
Race officials had to postpone registration last year after the demand for bibs crashed the servers of their registration provider, Active.com. A lottery was later held to distribute the remaining open spots for the race.
