A couple weeks back we previewed the Silent Film Society of Chicago's "Buster Keaton Weekend" at the Des Plaines Theater. Well, it was originally supposed to be at the Des Plaines before the classic movie house failed to meet a Jan. 15 deadline set by the town of Des Plaines to fix some building code issues that would make Congress Theater owner Eddie Carranza take notice. Among those issues is the lack of a fire curtain for live performances, boiler and furnace room discrepancies and no sprinkler system near the stage area.

The show, however, will go on. The Silent Film Society of Chicago found a new space for their film screenings at the Leela Arts Center (620 N. Lee St., Des Plaines). Showtimes and prices are the same and the Leela Arts Center's Beaux-Arts style architecture still makes a fitting setting for a weekend of classic silent film viewing.
