Photos: Bloomingdale Trail Western Avenue Bridge Demolition And Removal

By Chuck Sudo in News on Mar 10, 2014 7:30PM

Construction on the Bloomingdale Trail continued last weekend with the demolition and removal of the Western Avenue Bridge. Residents living near Western, Armitage and Milwaukee had to endure an entire weekend of noise from construction and the closure of Western so the work could be completed. But managers for the rails-to-trails project said the demolition and eventual reconstruction of the bridge and similar structures at Oakley and Ashland Avenues are necessary before they can move on to other elements of the project.

Next up is the demolition of the bridge on Milwaukee Avenue between Oakley and Leavitt March 14-16. Milwaukee Avenue will be closed this weekend so crews can do the work. That will be followed by an assessment and moving of the bridge at Ashland Avenue.

Residents who live near the Bloomingdale Trail can find frequent updates to the project at the site’s news section.
