A group of 20-something artists barely scraping by, an unexpected story of a kidnap-gone-wrong and classic Johnny Cash tunes light up the stage this week.

Rent
The Paramount is putting on Johnathan Larson’s infamous rock musical following a group of starving artists in 1990 New York City—back when the AIDS crisis was still new. The show runs through Sunday, April 6.

Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora, 630-896-6666 or online.

Devil Land
Devil Land is the story of a kidnapped little girl and her imaginary friend—the show is UrbanTheater Company’s dark twist on a fairytale-like story. The show runs through Sunday, April 6.

UrbanTheater Company, 2628 W. Division St., 312-239-8783 or online.

Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash
Ring of Fire is making its Chicago debut after its short-lived 2006 Broadway run. Million Dollar Quartet veteran Michael Monroe Goodman plays the younger version of the title character—and sings all the ruggedly enjoyable songs that Johnny Cash fans will expect. The show runs through Sunday, March 30.

Theatre at the Center, 1040 Ridge Rd., Munster, IN, 219-836-3255 or online.
