Geek Bar is taking over Mad River Bar & Grille on Monday evening for a preview of the upcoming Lincoln Park restaurant and bar. Geek Bar hopes to fill a niche that is under-served by providing a place for the nerd and geek community to gather.

Geek Bar’s Chief Marketing Officer Matt Wolff said, “We should have a home, a place to watch Doctor Who and get together as a community.” They hope Geek Bar will be that place– a sports bar of sorts for people more interested in watching Battlestar Galactica than March Madness.

Their menu plays homage to geek culture. Chef Tom Kern, formerly of BadHappy Poutine Shop, has created dishes like “Littlefingers,” which are crab and chorizo corn dogs with lime aioli and chili-tomato puree that are named after the shifty character from Game of Thrones.

Laura Green, head of their beverage program, created drinks like the “Hyrule,” a green cocktail with citrus and jalapeno named after the kingdom in the Zelda video games.

Fans of BadHappy will be excited to learn that they plan on having a poutine called “Curds Against Humanity,” a tribute to the Cards Against Humanity card game that has the game maker’s blessing.

Geek Bar's scheduled to open around May, at 1960 N. Clybourn Ave., but if you can’t wait until then Geek Bar Mad River Takeover tickets are available online for $35.
