Foxy Shazam recorded their new album last fall with Steve Albini, and today they've very quietly released the results of those sessions. For free. On our first listen to the new LP, GONZO, the band has toned down their over-the-top glam approach a bit for a more centered and gritty approach. Well, as gritty as a falsetto-led band with prominent trumpet lines can be. And don't worry, it's not as if the band has undergone a full 180, there's plenty of the group's operatic flash still in the music.

As you can see in the photo above we're dealing with a band who has indeed toned down their visual flair so perhaps this is their attempt to distance themselves from their flashier past? Personally, we were fans of Foxy Shazam's outrageous looks and antics, but even if they're now sporting haircuts that look more mainstream, the music hasn't changed much. The entire album was tracked in one day last Halloween, so there's a fluidity and an urgency that courses through the songs. It feels nicely organic.

Give the album a listen and download below, and if you like it remember that Foxy Shazam will be in town to play Lincoln Hall on June 21.
