Extra Extra: 2014 First Quarter Murder Rate Drops

- The Chicago Police Department said the murder rate for the first three months of 2014 is at its lowest rate since 1958 and a 55 percent drop compared to 2012. What they aren't saying is there were only six fewer murders compared to the same time frame last year. [ABC 7]
- An appeals court was unimpressed with a motion by former Cook County Commissioner William Beavers' attorneys to have his tax evasion conviction tossed. Beavers is nearing the end of a six-month prison sentence. [Sun-Times]
