Our minds have been on house music more than usual this week since the sad news broke of Frankie Knuckles death Monday night. So we were delighted to pause our continuous soundtrack of DJ mixes to check out the first teaser trailer for the forthcoming documentary The House That Chicago Built.
The film is an endeavor by another player in Chicago house music history, Lil Louis. Louis spent over seven years interviewing 180 different dance music figures to seek out the true history and roots of house music. As you can tell in the teaser below, the origins of house music can be a bit complicated.
To give you an idea of the impressive roster Louis spoke to, here is just a handful of names: Frankie Knuckles, Chip E, Derrick Carter, DJ Rush, Theo Parrish, Louie Vega, DJ Spinna, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Green Velvet, Pete Tong, Basement Jaxx, Armin Van Buuren, Avicii, David Guetta and many more.
