“Party weird!” is the motto of Craft Cocktail, an iPhone app that teaches you how to make some pretty odd and beautiful cocktails. The app is the brainchild of three women from Chicago and Nashville: The Violet Hour’s Nandini Khaund (who recently made a very weird pig's blood cocktail in The Reader's Cocktail Challenge), photographer Martha Williams, and designer/developer Lauren Kessinger.

The app almost feels like a book, with two chapters released so far. Each chapter has ten unique and beautifully photographed cocktails, recipes, a guide to various spirits, and interesting facts about each drink. The first chapter highlights some of the health-giving properties of plants added to cocktails like “The Golden Braid,” a variation on white sangria that contains mint, which it says helps with headaches and fatigue.

The second chapter, which is the weirdest so far, aims to introduce readers to the tricks of the trade through hidden geometries present in great drinks. “The Magicians” recipe instructs you to make cinnamon-espresso syrup and includes a tarot card. The “Apres Ski” is a tantalizing brew inspired by matcha almond cookies that contains a homemade vanilla almond milk. Recipes range from complex to simple- the simplest being a homemade sour stout that just requires you to mix two beers.

The app is currently free.
