Some folks may be excited that the first new Veruca Salt songs to come from the the group's four original members will be released this Saturday, but we're more excited to hear news of the band's first Chicago show going on sale Friday!

The original line-up of Nina Gordon, Louise Post, Jim Shapiro and Steve Lack splintered apart in the '90s after the release of the band's sophomore effort Eight Arms To Hold You. The quartet went from Chicago indie darlings writing scruffy pop songs to recording with super-producer Bob Rock to churn out stadium sized anthems covered with gloss and shine. The transition took its toll though, and the primary songwriting team of Gordon and Post separated. Post led the band over the next decade-plus with a variety of line-ups, and while some of that era's output is still pretty good, nothing could quite match the magic if the original line-up.

Last March the band posted "for now let's just say this: hatchets buried, axes exhumed" to its Facebook page and then confirmed in September that the original line-up was heading into the studio with Brad Wood to record new music. The first results of those studio session will be released Saturday with the new songs "It's Holy" and "The Museum Of Broken Relationships" serving as the b-side to a Record Store Day re-release of their first big hit, "Seether."

The band just announced a string of shows kicking off in June, but Chicago has to wait to see the band until July 12 when they play Lincoln Hall. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday at noon. We can't wait to see the old gang back onstage.
