Chicago Transit Authority's ongoing attempts to spruce up its infrastructure continue with work on the Orange Line that will suspend service between Halsted Street and Roosevelt Road. If you're have travel plans involving the World's Busiest Square Mile, prepare for longer commutes.

The Orange Line work centers on the stretch of track running along 18th Street connecting the Halsted Street and Roosevelt Road stations. Crews will replace worn rail ties and other components that have been in place well past their useful life. The structure will also undergo painting and weatherproofing so that melting ice from the structure doesn't fall and freeze on the streets and parking lots underneath.

The shutdown will begin 10 p.m. tonight and run through 4 a.m. April 21. Crews will continue their work on the Orange Line May 2-4, May 16-19, May 23-26 and May 30-June 2. State Street and 18th Street will experience full or partial closures during those dates.
