The city has a litany of free events planned for Millennium Park’s 10th anniversary this summer. On Tuesday the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events released the schedule for the popular Downtown Sound Music Mondays series. The lineup features the usual assortment of popular acts, local artists and indie darlings.

Things kick off June 2 with the popular Robbie Fulks, with Funeral Bonsai Wedding opening. Funeral Bonsai Wedding is the latest project by Dolly Varden’s Steve Dawson, who has gathered together some of Chicago’s best improvising musicians.

Other highlights of the schedule include Bob Mould with Split Single opening (June 23); Richard Thompson and his Electric Trio (June 16); Maps & Atlases with Wooden Ships (Aug. 4); and Syrian sensation Omar Souleyman (June 9). We're especially stoked to see Mould, Souleyman, Fulks, Thompson (one of the best guitarists on the planet) and the stellar double bill of My Brightest Diamond and White Mystery June 30. It's nice to see all the homegrown talent on the bill. In addition to Fulks, White Mystery, and Funeral Bonsai Wedding, Ted Sirota's Heavyweight Dub, Maps & Atlases, Wooden Shjips, Russian Circles and Joshua Abrams' Natural Information Society will all grace the Pritzker Pavilion stage this summer.
