Quick Look: Silom 12 Brings Fantastic Thai To Bucktown

By Staff in Food on May 14, 2014 7:30PM

Silom 12 brings Thai cooking that does not disappoint to the Bucktown landscape. Spacious on the inside with lounge ambiance and also outdoor seating during warmer months, what diners here can expect is delicious Thai food coupled with outstanding service and reasonable prices.

While perusing the menu for vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, snack on their complimentary shrimp crisps with a spicy seafood sauce. The tuna tataki is an outstanding appetizer of seared tuna that is sesame-crusted with crispy egg noodles in a spicy Thai-style seafood reduction. Another great appetizer is the larb tod—fried, ground chicken in rice powder and fresh herbs served with lemon over a bed of lettuce and red onions. The panang curry features a sweet and spicy gravy filled with red and green peppers, green beans, and plump shrimp.

If you have enough room, or if you opt to sit for awhile to let your appetizers and entrées settle, the banana wonton comes recommended. It is ripe bananas, accented with cinnamon and sugar, and fried inside of a wonton to a crisp. There were slices of bananas on the side and a fantastic scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with caramel and lime sauce. After a finale of some refreshing ginger tea, it is easy to find Silom 12 somehow making its way onto the calendar for future samplings.

Silom 12 is located at 1846 N. Milwaukee Ave.
