Sixto Rodriguez made two albums in the early '70s and then disappeared. Over the years those records attained cult status and Rodriguez grew famous, primarily in South Africa and Australia. In 2012, director Malik Bendjelloul (who died of an apparent suicide this week) released Searching For Sugar Man, a documentary of two South African fans trying to locate their idol and see what had become of him.

Rodriguez was discovered to be alive and well, living in Detroit. The success of the film brought his music to a brand new audience, this time finally giving him some measure of fame in the U.S. This late career resurgence has continued and Rodriguez is currently on tour. We sent photographer Frank Rico to his stop at The Chicago Theatre Wednesday night to snap some pictures of Rodriguez in action.
