Four-Year-Old Indiana Boy Accidentally Shoots, Kills Self With Parents' Gun

A four-year-old boy from Merrillville, IN, is dead after reportedly shooting himself accidentally with his parents' handgun. According to CBS Chicago, the boy took the gun from his parents' room around 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

The boy reportedly took the gun back to his own room, where it discharged a single shot. Merrillville police found the boy with a wound to his head. He was taken to a nearby hospital, then was pronounced dead. The Post-Tribune reports the boy's family, including his parents and two siblings, were home at the time of the shooting.

The alleged incident is still under investigation by local police.
