Here's another sign that Chiberia is well past the horizon: Chicago's beaches officially open this weekend. Since things will be cooler by the lake this weekend it may be a bit too chilly to catch some rays or a dip and Lake Michigan's water temp may still be closer to Polar Plunge levels than "seize Chicago's summer in a Kung-Fu grip" mode, but there's no turning back now.

The Chicago Park District, in an effort to keep wannabe beachgoers abreast of conditions on the beaches, will now have the ability to update current swim conditions based on water quality or poor weather directly from the beach. The Park District has been using predictive computer models for a couple years.

If you do decide to swim only do so when lifeguards are on duty from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Currently, all beaches are cleared for opening.
