One Great Dish: Scoops' 'Italian Stallion' Milkshake

Here's a little secret: Bridgeport residents love their frozen treats. Whether it be the funnel cake sundae at the Sugar Shack on 26th Street or the Italian ice at Ferro's (which both made Chicagoist's list of the best ice cream shops in town), when the mercury is rising these places will help keep you cool.
Another ice cream shop that missed the cut from last year's list is Scoops, a family-owned joint that, like the Sugar Shack, serves up soft serve ice cream, scoops of tightly packed ice cream including Blue Moon, and a small but inventive array of sundaes, splits, and shakes.
Years ago Time Out Chicago named Scoops' chocolate milkshake one of the best in Chicago for its simplicity and flavor. Another Scoops shake in that vein that I've been craving with the rise in the temperature is their "Italian Stallion," a mix of vanilla ice cream and a double shot of espresso. The rich flavor of the vanilla makes a perfect blend with the coffee, and the combined sugar and caffeine rush will keep you alert when you need it most (or can least afford it). Since you're already all in, get this with whipped cream and don't care a whit about the consequences to your waistline, blood sugar levels or demeanor. This is a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Scoops is located at 608 W. 31st St. and are cash only.
