That was fast. The Ledge at Skydeck Chicago at Willis (Sears) Tower re-opened Friday after the protective coating covering one of the glass enclosures cracked Wednesday night. Skydeck Chicago management had to work some serious damage control Thursday after it was widely reported (including Chicagoist, which we updated the error when more information surfaced) that one of the half-inch thick panes was what cracked.

A Skydeck Chicago representative stressed (pun not intended) that the coating is used to protect the glass surface from scratching and will crack, as it is designed to in order to protect the surface of the glass.

Go ahead and test it out, Chicago.
