Forbidden Root is launching three of their botanical craft brews at several bars and restaurants across the city. The brewery is also preparing to open its brew pub in West Town, after getting approval from the neighborhood to move forward with its plans.

Their unique beers include their eponymous flagship brew, made with 27 different botanicals, creating something between root beer and amaro. Sublime Ginger is a refreshing wheat beer with Asian ginger. Shady Character is their most interesting beer—a porter made with the oft-polarizing licorice spiced with star anise and black pepper.

Some people might object to flavored beers, thinking them a new-fangled invention, but archaeology shows that the original beers made by humans were full of herbs, roots, and spices.

Franklin Tap (325 S. Franklin St.) is hosting a "Meet The Brewers" event tonight from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and so far their beers can be found on tap at Two, Bad Dog Tavern, Little Goat, SmallBar Division and Farmhouse Evanston.
