Personally I'm one of those rare folks in Chicago who prefers the cold over sweltering July heat, so this milder summer temperatures we're currently having is like the best version of a summer to me. Which means I'm in full summer drinking mode, throw me something fruity and frozen or an ice cold Radler on a patio. Scofflaw currently has an excellent rum swizzle on their menu that to me is a perfect summer breeze sipper.

The Swizzle Seven is similar to the one raved about when Chicagoist reviewed Scofflaw a few years ago, but has a bit more sweetness and additional fruit flavors. The spirit base is a combination of Coruba Rum and Four Roses Bourbon. Added to that is passion fruit, orange, lime, grenadine and Angostura bitters. The concoction is mixed and served over crushed ice, frost covering the glass as you sip. And do sip, because although you could easily guzzle this fruity drink down, you'll eventually feel the double punch of rum and bourbon. If you don't like a strong taste of alcohol, this is the drink to order because I couldn't detect any harsh edges, just delicious fruit juice. Passion fruit is so cloyingly sweet on its own (as is grenadine) but the brightness of orange and the tartness of lime along with the Angostura balances it out and keep the drink from verging into "too sweet" territory.

So if you love sipping a nice fruity nectar under the sun (or in the dark, both I'm totally fine with) head to Scofflaw and order a round, close your eyes and pretend to feel the island breeze floating by.
