LIFE Celebrates The Greatness Of Chicago

LIFE.com launched a new "Great Cities" feature this week where they share photos from their ridiculously deep photography archives, one of the richest in the world and one-stop shopping to see the progress of American history and culture in the 20th century.
The inaugural article in this series focuses on Chicago. LIFE asked me to write the copy accompanying the photos, riffing on how they depict Chicago's past, present and future. It was an honor to do so and be associated with the magazine that has published the works of Francis Miller, Gordon Parks, Al Fenn, Walker Evans, Wallace Kirkland, Gordon Coster and Art Shay over the decades.
