Lake Michigan’s water temperature may still be a chilly 55 degrees and you might be hesitant to pack away all your sweaters for the season, but today marks a true sign that summer, and all its balmy glory, is on its way. All of Chicago’s 49 outdoor public pools are now open. And while the weekend’s temperatures are forecasted to stay in the 60s and 70s, temperatures in the high 80s are currently in the extended forecast.

Open and family swims are free to all Chicago residents. Many pools offer lap swim memberships and youth lesson programs, which will start up next week for an additional charge. But for now you can soak up the sun, perfect your backstroke and try to wash away blustery winter memories at your nearest public pool from now until Labor Day weekend.
