Sandra Oh makes her Chicago debut, plus a Sondheim classic and a Midwest premiere—all on the Chicago stage this week.

Assassins
We’re looking forward to what Kokandy Productions does with Stephen Sondheim’s perky little musical about infamous historical murderers. If it’s anything like the company’s recent productions of The Last Five Years or Sweet Smell of Success, we’re in good hands. The show runs through Sunday, July 20.

Kokandy Productions at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont, 773-904-7404 or online.

Death and the Maiden
Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh portrays a politician’s wife who must recall being tormented and blindfolded in a military detention center some years before. The show runs through Sunday, July 13.

Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln, 773-871-3000 or online.

Annapurna
Profiles Theatre has nabbed the Midwest premiere of Annapurna, Sharr White’s haunting play about an estranged couple who reunite under dismal circumstances and must sort through the pain and passion from their long-lost relationship. The show runs through Sunday, July 20.

Profiles Theatre Main Stage, 4139 N. Broadway, 773-549-1815 or online.
