Cubs 2, Phillies 1

With just four hits, the Cubs broke fellow last placers the Phillies three-game win streak. Starlin Castro hit a two-run homer in the game's fourth inning, which gave the Cubs a lead that, in decidedly un-Cubs fashion, they held onto. The Phillies eeked out a run in the ninth off a single by Domonic Brown. The game was a source of controversy though, as Phillies pitcher Roberto Hernandez was tossed, without warning, after hitting Castro in the elbow. [Even Castro said he thought Hernandez didn't hit him on purpose.]

Royals 7, Sox 2

Let's hear your best Lorde jokes, because the Sox were ruled by the Royals from the very beginning. Jose Quintana gave five runs up in the first inning alone, which insured a Kansas City victory right then and there. The Sox offense simply didn't show, as the South Siders left 11 runners on base and went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Oof.
