So what if Rahm Emanuel’s approval ratings are stuck in some pothole that still needs to be patched? At least he knows how to rock a suit. Vanity Fair, a magazine we always refer to when it comes to hard-hitting politics, named His Elective Majesty one of the world’s best-dressed mayors in its recent issue.

That ought to help with Emanuel’s approval ratings.

Vanity Fair cited Emanuel’s salt-and-pepper hairdo and his penchant for blue ties and “luxe fabrics” as reasons for him being named to the list. "Perhaps, no politician wears the navy suit better," VF writes. (All the better not to see him sweat as he looks for ways to balance the city’s budget.) Maybe those power suits will make all the difference in a theoretical mayoral showdown with the schoolmarm sartorial style of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.

Emanuel joins Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Baltimore’s Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, London’s Boris Johnson and Paris’ Anne Hidalgo on the list.
