Sunday's gross weather forecast miscalculation by Skilling Central meant the weather was perfect for day drinking, with unfettered sunshine and mild temperatures. Many people must have been waiting for the afternoon showers that never arrived because the patio at Parson's Chicken and Fish was manageable for a change.

The patio is one reason the popular Logan Square chicken and fish house is a popular summer drinking destination. Another is the lineup of slushies offered. The Negroni slushy gets the lion's share of attention and write-ups and for good reason. But visitors to Parson's should also take the time to enjoy their purple slushy (made with port wine) and especially the Dark and Stormy slushy, which is as fleeting as a Chicago summer and demands to be seized as hard and enjoyed as passionately.

The ingredient that holds everything together with this cocktail is Gosling's ginger beer. In frozen form, it makes your lips tingle in anticipation and happiness. Because it is a slushy you'll need to pay attention and sip it in moderation or else the drink will go directly to your head as the weather begins to heat up. Like a martini, you can't drink just one and three is too many, so order this in pairs.

Parson's Chicken & Fish is located at located at 2952 W. Armitage Ave.
