The Yolks To Drop New LP, Head Off On Tour

Just about any time The Yolks even think about creating some new material, there we are nearby—lurking in the shadows, listening intently, waiting for those sweet and jangly pop tunes to hit our ear drums.
And it’s been too long. We’ve been getting by on their latest EP American Summer and the “Two Dollars Out The Door” 7-inch since they were released in January, but now the local garage rockers are getting ready to release a whole new album, Kings of Awesome.
The new release (their second LP) is scheduled to drop July 31 on Randy Records, but you won’t find much in the way of teasers. They streamed the full album on their Bandcamp page in mid-June, but only for a day, and now, there’s only a short track to available to tide you over: Listen to “You Don’t Live Here No More” for a taste of the delightful ditties that keep our heads swaying and our hearts a little heavy. (Don’t worry, there are sure to be plenty of raucous rhythms to induce some sweaty, rabid dancing).
The Yolks hold a special place in Chicago’s heart, but they’re spreading their wings and flapping eastward at the end of July, where they’ll tour from Detroit over to New York and round back to the Midwest, hitting a handful of stops along the way. But before they head off on tour, The Yolks will play a show this Saturday at our favorite little Logan Square dive, Cole’s. As always at Cole's, this show is free, and The Yolks are performing in support of headlining act Cozy, the Minneapolis teen-pop punks who are celebrating the release of their new album Button By Button on HoZac Records. The show will open with the charming and bluesy stripped-down rock of Brendan & the Black Jackets.
The Yolks plays Saturday, July 12, at Cole's, 2338 N. Milwaukee, 10 p.m., FREE, 21+
