'Othello' at The Gift Theatre.
The Gift goes Shakespeare, Oracle tackles Upton Sinclair, and more on the Chicago stage this week.
Oracle Theatre is tackling Upton Sinclair’s chilling 1906 portrait of immigrants working in the Chicago stockyards—and its infamous details on the health violations of the meatpacking industry. Oh, and did we mention admission is free? The show runs through Saturday, July 19 through Saturday, Sept. 6.
Oracle Theatre, 3809 N. Broadway, 252-220-0269 or online.
The Black Ensemble Theatre is sticking to what they do best—high-energy, wholly entertaining biopics set to stage. This one is about a trio of singers who helped Motown Records rise to fame. The show runs through Sunday, July 20 through Sunday, Sept. 7.
Black Ensemble Theatre, 4450 N. Clark St., 773-769-4451 or online.
The Gift Theatre’s first Shakespeare production in the company's history validates the trek up to the far northwest side. Their Othello is a more contemporary take on the infamous moor of Venice and his virtuous but poorly fated wife. The show runs through Sunday, Aug. 24.
The Gift Theatre, 4802 N. Milwaukee, 773-283-7071 or online.
