Kurt Russell is at his most rakishly handsome, smart-assed best in John Carpenter’s 1986 film “Big Trouble in Little China.” The supernatural thriller stars Russell as a truck driver called to help rescue the fiancĂ©e of his friend, a quest which takes them to an underworld beneath San Francisco’s Chinatown ruled by ancient sorcerer Lo Pan (James Hong), who seeks the woman for her green eyes—rare for a Chinese woman.

Kim Cattrall co-stars in the film, a solid decade before “Sex in the City” would catapult her to stardom. “Big Trouble in Little China” was a box office failure but has attained cult status in the 28 years since its release. See it on a big screen midnight July 25 and 26 at the Music Box Theatre. (3733 N. Southport Ave.)
