Police are searching for a pitbull who mauled a 6-year-old boy in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side Monday evening.
The incident occurred during a birthday party on the 7400 block of South Champlain Avenue around 6:15 p.m. The pitbull, along with a Rottweiler—both of them unleashed and without collars—approached the party. Most of the children in attendance were able to take shelter in a bounce house that was part of the party, but Armani McKinnis wound up being attacked by the pitbull. A neighbor took cellphone video footage of the pitbull, who walked onto his porch before attacking McKinnis.
Adults were able to free Armani from the dog, who ran away along with the Rottweiler and is believed to have come from a few streets over. McKinnis suffered wounds to his face and leg and underwent surgery at Comer Children's Hospital Tuesday. He's in serious but stable condition.
