Light Opera Works' 'Fiddler on the Roof.'
Large-scale musical numbers and silent, sidesplitting scenes vie for the spotlight this week.
The Boxer
Matt Lyle’s silent comedy promises to be a slapstick, hour-long farce without one spoken word. Consider us intrigued. The show runs through Sunday, Aug. 31.
Pursuit Productions at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport, 773-935-6860 or online.
Fiddler on the Roof
Light Opera Works’ second offering in its 34th season is a musical theater classic about a poor but proud dairy farmer and his spirited, marriage-age daughters. The show runs Saturday, Aug. 9 through Sunday, Aug. 24.
Light Opera Works at the Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson St., Evanston, 847-920-5360 or online.
On the Town
Leonard Bernstein’s tap-happy musical follows three American sailors in 1940s Manhattan on a whirlwind 24-hour leave. Pure, cheesy fun. The show runs from Wednesday, Aug. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 12.
Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Dr., 847-634-0200 or online.
