An 18-year-old man was shot Saturday afternoon during the annual Bud Billiken Parade in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood. Details are still forthcoming, but NBC Chicago reports the shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of South King Drive. NBC Chicago reported the man was apparently shot in the arm, though stories by the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune, respectively, say the man was shot in the hand.
According to the Sun-Times, ten men were taken into custody following the shooting. The Tribune reports that another shooting occurred near the area, though that shooting appeared to be self-inflicted and entirely accidental.
The parade continued, though crowd attendance understandably dwindled.
CBS has more details:
The injured man, who was shot in the hand, was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Chicago Fire Department said.CBS 2’s Suzanne Le Mignot spoke to witnesses at the scene who said the shooting occurred among parade spectators, just steps from the route. They say people began running in all directions, and the suspect took off west on 42nd Street.
Police taped off the area where the shooting occurred. A trail of blood was visible.
This weekend, five people were shot from the period of Friday evening leading into Saturday morning.
